The Learning Support Department aims to help boys reach their full academic potential.
Central to our ethos is the recognition that boys, of all abilities, may experience specific weaknesses in English and maths, or need support with English as an additional language. We strive to ensure that difficulties of any kind do not hold back a boy’s eventual success and we are passionate about boosting self-esteem and keeping spirits high.
By co-ordinating the school’s annual progress screening, we gain detailed knowledge of all boys to communicate to staff and create individual pupil ‘passports’ to explain the needs of those who require extra help. Our team liaises closely with all subject teachers and is fully integrated within the English department, delivering class spelling lessons for Years 4 and 5, using ‘WordBlaze’ - our own published multisensory scheme. This cohesive approach enables us to offer Cothill boys the best possible support and the invitations to our Christmas party are hotly anticipated from September onwards!
